Very closed for the first hour. Gradually opened to reveal very subdued but lovely detailed spice, red fruit, leather, earth and mushroom. Excellent depth and balance. Did not have the excitement or energy of other 1999’s but pretty and quite youthful.

1999 Leroy Nuits Saint Georges Aux Lavieres. Fairly closed on the nose to start, but some fresh red fruit peaking through. Has beautiful pinosity on the nose, then immediately very fine and elegant on the attack and through the mid palate, showing good acidic freshness and pure, ripe, concentrated red fruit. Has an effortless, sinewy texture, along with a mild snap of tartness to the fruit. Not a big, full finish, but light to medium and clean. Tannins fine and mostly resolved. Best on the front and mid palate. Should be great drinking this decade.

This has some licorice and leather notes. Fruits are dark and there’s good tannic support. It is a little chunky in relation to the other wines but still a very enjoyable drink none the less.

Floral, sweet, and elegant. This is a pleasure to drink now, not even close to peak. Drink now if you like primary fruit, hold for development of secondary characteristics.

Medium red in color, the typical floral Leroy nose, nice and easy going palate that is not particularly complex, nicely resolved with secondary flavors. Good if not a great Leroy Lavieres.

(Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges Aux Lavières) Medium red color with clear meniscus; funky, bell pepper, vegetal, green bean nose initially, that changes to hibiscus and dried cherry nose; tart, vegetal, stemmy, red fruit and mineral palate, needs time; medium finish
