Still had a garnet core fading to an almost petrol color on the rim. Initial nose was sweet red fruit, perhaps strawberries. Wine still had a decent amount of acidity which kept things moving. Not much development in the glass, maybe some menthol or a "barbershop" aroma. On the palate the sweetness was almost raisin like. Not a bad wine, certainly has held up fairly well since 1990. If anyone has bottles, drink now as further aging won't do this any favors.

Mature strawberries, strawberry jam if you like. Dark chocolate, black olives, black tea, soya, sweet licorice and mushroom. Complex with a hint of odd. The first sniff come across as quite weird and almost flawed but that quickly goes away. Strange. Cherries and some green notes dominates the taste. Medium acid and pretty short aftertaste. Tannins are well integrated and still full of life. A decent Barolo, with some maturity, consider the price.

NYC Group does Piedmont (NYC): Cough syrup cherry. Complex and earthy. Somewhat tasty in an oddball kind of way.
