A little Sunday afternoon pre-dinner, pre-Happy Hour wine. I thought I had gone through all of these, but found one more bottle while I was looking for something else. Glad I decided to open this, as it’s in a lovely spot. There’s still ample fruit, and the mid-palate has filled out, making a more substantial impression than it did a few years ago. While it’s more developed as a seven year old wine, the basic form and structure, even to a degree the flavors, reminds me a lot of a Patricia Green Durant Chardonnay I had last week. I liked that one, and I like this one. I see no reason to rush through any bottles folks might have on hand.

Holding up well (relative to many CA chardonnays) medium bodied, no significant color change, just the slightest hint of oxidative notes/butterscotch flavors, but not so great as to be off-putting to those of us averse to them

Very nice. I find myself gravitating more and more towards Ladd’s offerings, as the winemaker expands his portfolio with great results. As an example, this is only Ladd’s second Chardonnay, and it’s hitting all the notes with clarity and balance. Bright, clean and refreshing, it carries nice acidity, pleasing mid-palate ripeness, and lasting finish, beyond other chards I’ve had recently. I had forgotten I had this—stumbling across it in a search for a white to go with a poultry meal. I’m very happy I did, and I only hope there is still some available so I can put some away—it’s a keeper.

Nose veers into the perfumed showing orange blossoms and lemon oil. The richness of the palate is just right. It gives you California generosity without wallowing about. Balanced combo of citrus and tropical fruits. Terrific complexity and expression. Super tasty. An unsung hero of CA Chard. Very good.
