A bit of a disaster week with these 2015 Roulots. Each of the Bouchères, Tessons, and Meix Chavaux showed something between extreme ripeness and undue oxidization. Minimal to no acid to speak of. I have not had this problem with Roulot before, although I do not have a ton of experience with 2015. (I've had this '15 Bouchères show incredibly fresh and bright in February '22, although seemingly without a CT note). Brought each of the Bouchères, Tessons, and Miex Chavaux to a different two or three star in NYC and had a discussion with the sommeliers as too what is going on here, as each example was unpleasantly round and undefined in a way that I have not found with these before. A little in the way of frosting / icing weighs in favour of oxidization issues and not solely overripeness. Have had plenty of these and will steer clear going forward.

A Belated 52nd Birthday Celebration (Alisal Guest Ranch, Solvang, CA): Served a touch warmer than cellar temp, which was the right approach. Would have benefited from a generous decant, as the wine was tight for more than an hour, with piercing acidity but so much promise. Eventually the wine settled into splendid shape, with impressive balance and power, harmonious. Note of melon, yellow fruit, spice and muted honey. I loved this.

Drank side-by-side with 10' Raveneau Butteaux, which I preferred of the two. The Roulot was more round by comparison, and would have been excellent on its own, but was a bit overshadowed by the near perfect Raveneau.

PNP. Nose shows ripe tropical fruit, white flowers and spice. Deep rich palate, ripe and lacks a bit of energy.

A private dinner (Scharzhof, Wiltingen, Germany): Deep and rich, clearly recognisable Roulot style, very rounded and creamy, lacks energy for my palate, slightly fuzzy finish. Not convinced.
