Big surprise, as I figured this would be somewhat harsh and alcoholic given the age and the alcohol (17%). Nice nose of cherry and raspberry with some black pepper notes. On the palate, it's surprisingly soft, with plenty of red and black fruit still, a viscous, mouth-coating texture, and an ample, black-cherry finish. This is one of those high alcohol, big wines that actually manages to be relatively balanced and, for a Zin, show well with a couple years more than I normally give them.

11/10/03 at home watching Monday Nite Football. Rich ruby, not opaque. Sweet fruit in the nose. This is impressive. Pretty. Nice wine on the palate, plenty of fruit, still very much alive, though a bit sharp and slightly ragged and alcoholic on the finish. 5-12-15-7-89/100. Hiroko says 92.

Pretty good. We put this against a '99 Turley Hayne, and I thought this had way more fruit. Time to drink up if you have any more.

Big strong zin just perfect for hickory smoked ribs and brisket on July 4th. Drank the only two bottles we had, it was worth the wait.
