  Drinks at Bo and Mich's (Sydney, Australia): The best of the trio of new world Pinots on the night. The nose was all earthy and funky, with notes of sous bois and autumn leaves floating alongside sweet red fruit - think cherries and strawberries and raspberry ripple - then a stemmy, whole cluster note; these along with savoury bits of meat and pepper at the edges. A very nice and complex bouquet. The palate was really enjoyable too, soft and velvety in terms of tannins, with bright acidity instead giving shape to lovely bright flavours of candied cherries and berries, laced with more of those stemmy, brambly, peppery notes. Finish was decent enough, with just the tiniest hint of spritz and cola at the very end hinting at a bit secondary fermentation A very enjoyable wine indeed, and drinking nicely now.

  Pale ruby colorless rim. Perfumed nose of fresh flowers, wild berries, underlying stony minerals with some damp soil note. Toasty and smoky with hint of sweet spices. Refreshing acidity and quite intense flavour of floral, bright red berries and some game on palate though not particular lengthy. Easy drinking and delicious.

  Pyramid Valley (Best Cellars, Crown Street): More ripe than the earth smoke, raspberry fruit over slight stalks. Perfumed notes, there is a touch of liquorice here as well. Juicy and fleshy. The quite subtle and elegant fruit slightly subsumed beneath the slightly rasping tannic burr. Long. Nice.
