  • The color is inky dark, save for dark rose around the rim. The nose is earthy, with extra notes of mushroom. That may be first time I have used that descriptor. Then you taste it and things change, the fruit take over. Primarily dark fruit, blackberry. Some of the earthiness also comes through, but it's secondary. The tannins survive as does the acidity, enough to provide a structured drink. This is not a 15 year old wine that drinks like resolved velvet. Perhaps a function of the 15.5% abv. Overall, I'm impressed. It's a great wine that drinks well by itself or some cheese or a light meal.

  • This was excellent. Still a lot of life left. Good complexity

  • The nose on this has a very strong bretty streak which predominates over some of the fruit smells underneath. After a one hour decant it doesn’t blow off. The palate likewise is bretty but not to the point that the wine isn’t drinkable and at some point enjoyable. There is black fruit, smoked meats, barnyard and spice on the palate which is medium bodied and reasonably balanced if a bit rustic feeling. Not sure if this bottle is a little off or this is consistent with the vintage but I would drink these up as I don’t think they will get better.

The wine is at its peak for sure. A wonderful example of a premium Spanish wine. Classic old world characteristics. Lots of depth and nuances. Not something I come across often but would buy a six pack if I came across again. Good stuff!

  • Drank over two nights

    Dark ox-blood, full bodied
Dark berries, fruit leather, slightly gamey, cigar box
Smooth, nicely balanced. Medium finish. Tastes like nose.
Another excellent Spanish wine. Sophisticated, and great value.

(MELIS PRIORAT) #4; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-dark; NOSE-huge black Asian plum mixed w/ some Tide detergent; TASTE-very hot, very young, disjointed and awkward (dummy phase / way too young), Asian spice, black currant & black cherry, hint of Vanilla & Custard Pie, but flavors are very disjointed; BUT could be fabulous better in 6 years; GV-88
