  • Drank over 2 days. Day 1 - long decant. Up against Colgin and Schrader and was consensus 3rd place. Day 2- hoping more time air would help. Broke out the Zaltos Bordeaux glasses and similar results. Over the top monster Napa cab. Over oaked, over extracted. If not for the price point would be decent wine but absolutely atrocious QPR. Drinks like a wine that costs less than 1/3 of the price. Such a shame as I’ve always enjoyed other Fairchild wines.

  • Charity Pouring - Stones, Fairchild, Brand and Immortal (Hidden Ridge) (Craft LA - West Los Angeles): Tremendous nose on this wine. Lush valley floor notes of creme de cassis, black cherry, blackberries, spice box and some herbal earthy elements. Powerfully structured and fairly firm and linear, this is a nicely balanced wine without the super concentrated power you might expect from the Tench vineyard source. It is classic Melka, showing great elegance and has a terrific mouthfeel, with grainy but nicely refined tannins. A very long finish that is a bit clipped by acid at the moment. Lots of promise for this wine, but doesn't quite reach the upper echelon of the vintage for me. The QPR is also challenging at $375. That said, what a sweet looking bottle!

  • Fairchild and Benediction tasting event. #3 wine for me, dark crimson color, berry, cedar, leather, superb structure, perhaps the longest life ahead due to structure. Tasted shortly after opening so this had little air, but as with other wines from Fairchild exceptionally well made without being over the top sweet or extracted.

  • Fairchild Wine Tasting (St Helena California): The last wine of our tasting with Lawrence Fairchild was the 2015 Stone 3. Lawrence was very generous to let us try his newest offering from Fairchild wine. The Stone 3 is a wine that is made with fruit from the famous Tenche vineyard. This is another incredible offering from Fairchild! The nose was very pronounced with beautiful red and dark fruits. It also had very good acidity. It was not overly extracted, which allowed for an exposure to many different flavors of dark fruit and hints of leather and spice. This one is also one that will evolve wonderfully over time. These are wines that will age well compared to many other small production Napa cabs. Another great wine! Score 97
