This reminds me of a Cayuse Syrah from around this vintage. A creamy funkiness. Some chocolate, black olive, and dark plum, with some herbal notes. Lacking a bit in acidity, but besides that holding up quite well.

Drinking extremely well now. Loved how this wine was all Syrah on the nose and initial palate with game, light smoke, tarragon, sage, cherry, tar, cooked cabbage, minerals, and olive but seemlessly moved to the Cab Sauv profile of currant and graphite on the finish. Medium body, huge nose, and long finish. It was like tasting a light Cailloux Syrah with some Widowmaker splashed in. Wish I had more!

Began unbalanced with too much acidity and alcohol. Settled down within an hour into copious aromas of meat, stony minerality, pepper, and roasted fruit. The black fruit was well in the background with the roasted, gamy, and stony elements. If you like that style, this is a home run. For me, I'd like a little brighter fruit, but I definitely can recognize the quality here.
