  • Have had many Carters over the years - first time with a GTO. This is the best Carter I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

We let this breathe for about 3 hours under cork before we dove in.

I mean, what's there to say? This was perfection in a glass. We popped a 2015 Scarecrow and a Greer the night before, and while we loved both of those - this GTO was next level.

I'm sure this can lay down for plenty of time, but not sure how it gets much better. Stunning.

  • Enjoyed an early Christmas dinner alongside slow roasted prime rib, mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. I thought we would possibly wait a few more years for this, but, based on the reviews and year of COVID it felt the timing was right.

The harps were playing and the angels were singing. One of the top wines that I have ever enjoyed. Decanted and then aerated back into the bottle for two hours. My son took a smell and literally got goose bumps. The nose was of blackberries, black cherries, currant and a slight touch of leather. The palate is of blackberries, cherries and a touch of spice. My experience was similar to Yackman's in that the mid palate was a tad thin. Do not let that distract you from the 99 that I scored this wine as I am still waiting on the perfect wine. The mouthfeel was smooth and silky with a long finish. It was difficult to sip as a felt myself wanting more and more. Wow! What a fantastic wine. I cannot wait for the 16' and 18'.

I thought that it would be worth noting that I reached out to Carter and have another 2015 GTO headed my way. Yes, it is that good!

  • Part of a 14 bottle political protest. Oh my, wow! One of the 3 best wines I’ve had out of Napa ever. Double decant and slow ox for 60 min and that seemed to work. Took an initial sip from the decanter and initially it was a head turner, a beautiful lady even without her make up. 60 min later her hair was fixed, make up on and what a stunner. The nose was intoxicating, perfume intense fruit—even our casual wine drinkers couldn’t keep their noses out of the glass. Conversation literally stopped. On the palate, this is BTK no doubt, lovely exploding bouquet of red fruit, touch of black, lovely mineral streak to a long finish. Oak and tannin perfectly integrated, no edges or hot notes anywhere. This was a ‘15? Crazy good. Each sip was like walking by that beautiful lady, longing for her to graze by you again with her sophistication. Just Wow! That was the pregame.

When we pulled this for the larger group, I’ve never seen a bottle go so fast. Within two min, the mag was gone and conversations dwindled yet again...like a magic silencing potion. The group literally gushed over this even as other bottles were poured. I felt bad for a ‘13 Carter Weitz and ‘14 Vice Versa LPV that had to follow.

WOTN and there was never any question.

  • This is the superior wine, much like my first experience. What I’ve noticed this time around, is that the wine is a bit light and not as intense mid palate a I would hope for. Perhaps that’s why the Wine Advocate scored this vintage at 99 points and I have to agree with that score at this point. Still a fabulous wine, very enjoyable.
