A really solid and enjoyable wine. Drank next to a 00 Wines 17 VGW and similar in quality though different in profile, this has a little more class. Paler on visuals with that greenish tinge about it. Nose has fruited oak, Palate is open and soft enough with a drying green edge to wrap things up. Some vanilla and sweet fruit on entry and mid. Seems to lack something along middle and finish. The 00 has more punch and depth certainly Enjoyable

Short notice chance offline (Lorne): Much paler colour than its flightmate, and on first pouring struggled to shine. Perfectly decent but a little muted by comparison. Over time, and with food, really opened up. More delicate, on nose and palate, but a gentle grace to it, and some length. We probably opened these in the wrong order - and certainly a wine I’d enjoy tasting again.

Lorne Rangers (Lorne): Glad I pulled this now, and what an improvement since my first bottle in 2019. Very much the younger brother of the 2008 Gagnard we drank alongside, although there were some points of difference, this wine being a pale primrose rather than verging on golden, having some floral aspects to the nose, and the acidity being more of a caress than a jolt. Still extremely food-friendly, though, and its little hints of menthol combined beautifully with the cucumber in the ceviche starter.

Supper at Lorne with friends (Lorne Restaurant, London): Much paler than its flight mate, this opens with a charming note of slatey mountain stream. There is a subtle grapefruit pith note and a little lime zest which is also apparent on the palate. With some air a little rose petal florality emerges. Soars with the sea bream tartare starter. Gorgeous wine.

Hard to put down, so well balanced. Rich full but not overbearing. Peaches, necterine and faint flowers on the nose. Balanced and inviting on the palate
