  • Cherry, earth and leather on the nose. Medium bodied (14% ABV) with all red cherry notes upfront. A little bit softer and more accessible than I would have expected, especially for the vintage. Adds some earthiness and lighter, brighter strawberry behind. Finishes with earth, leather and solid, tannin based structure. Can certainly age (based on current finishing structure), but this wine doesn't have the depth and isn't as complex as the best from the vintage. While it shows well now, especially the upfront fruit, there wasn't anything distinctive or profound.

  • Geja's 44th Annual Wine Tasting Contest (Geja's Cafe, Chicago): Double blind. Light color. Notes of cherry and spice with a subtle earthy undertone. Cherry and earth on the palate as well, with heightened acidity. Drying tannins; hints of strawberry, cherry and vanilla. This is really nice. I'm fairly certain of my guess here- 2013 Produttori Barbaresco. This one saved my tasting, as I got points for everything but the producer.
