  • Re-tasted blind in VV from a different bottle for consistency.

Moderately translucent cherry red color. Quite restrained but also rather ripe nose with pretty linear aromas of ripe raspberries, some sweet strawberries, a little bit of cherry marmalade and a hint of earth. The wine is soft, pretty linear and rather sweet-toned on the palate with a moderately full body and quite one-dimensional flavors of red cherries, some ripe blackcurrant, a little bit of raspberry and a hint of earth. The acidity feels moderately high, yet still somewhat overwhelmed by the residual sugar sweetness. Firm medium-plus tannins. The finish is dry-ish, somewhat grippy and quite long with linear flavors of jammy strawberries, some ripe raspberries, a little bit of sweet black cherry and a hint of farmhouse funk.

A decent but also quite simple and straightforward Tuscan red that has some tannic grip, but otherwise is a bit lacking in depth, intensity and complexity. Comes across as somewhat sweet and a bit flabby. Rather uninteresting. Feels slightly overpriced for the quality at 10,98€.

  • Based on a classic Tuscan red wine based on Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo. After the fermentation a dose of must from overripe Cabernet Sauvignon grapes is added to the wine, letting the wine referment for a little while and then halting the fermentation while there is still some residual sugar left. 14% alcohol, 8 g/l residual sugar and 5,8 g/l acidity. Tasted blind in VV.

Moderately translucent ruby red color. Somewhat reticent and quite dry nose with aromas of ripe black cherries, some earthy tones, a little bit of fresh cranberry, light blackcurrant tones and a hint of leather. The wine is moderately full-bodied, dry-ish and somewhat soft on the palate with flavors of strawberries, some overripe cherries, a little bit of raspberry juice, light funky farmhouse tones, a hint of leather and a touch of blackcurrant. There seems to be a touch of residual sugar softness, and the medium-plus acidity doesn't seem to be adequately high to keep the wine from coming across as fresh. Fortunately the moderately firm tannins keep the wine quite structured. The high alcohol cuts through quite noticeably. The finish is long, moderately grippy and quite hot with lush flavors of strawberries, some cherry marmalade, a little bit of leather, light fruity notes of ripe blackcurrant and a hint of farmhouse funk.

A Tuscan red that has a nice, understated touch of funk and firm, structured tannins, but otherwise comes across as rather soft, jammy and blowzy. Simply too sweet and flabby for my taste. Feels like a good Tuscan red was just ruined by adding some jammy overripe Cab on top of it in an attempt to give it more mass appeal. Well, I guess this stuff sells, so perhaps it works then. I just don't understand why anybody would want to drink this kind of jammy stuff. Feels a tad overpriced for the quality at 10,98€.
