Community Tasting Notes (5)

  • 13% alcohol. Long cork of acceptable quality. Pale translucent colour.
There was a slight reductive touch when opening the bottle 30mn before the meal, but this was gone when the tasting began. Lovely red cherries on the nose Delicate but by no means insubstantial in the mouth with great purity and good mouthfeel; more red cherry. Plenty of depth here; this wine exemplifies again the difference between intensity and concentration.
    Highly enjoyable.

  • 13% alcohol. The cork is average in length but superior in quality. Served cool (maybe too much so) on account of the hot weather. Medium ruby colour with some translucence.
Very appealing red fruited nose with great purity. Similar in the mouth with a feel of directness; still largely primary, and very appealing in that mode.
While very good, this bottle impressed me less than the 2014 that I had recently, but this could be due to a number of factors (apart from the obvious age difference), including the somewhat spicy marinade for the duck brochettes. I will monitor my remaining bottles with interest and confidence.

  • 13% alcohol. The cork is of average length and density but it shows minimal wine penetration. Served slightly cool to counteract the ambient swelter. Pale ruby colour with no thinning at the edge.
The nose shows redcurrant and cranberry aromas in a way that is reminiscent of the better Gamays (this is not a criticism). In the mouth it is definitely Pinot with a refined mouthfeel worthy of the best 1er crus of the Côte de Beaune; long, satisfying and well balanced with excellent acidity in the finish. No perception of oak. A success without a doubt, and capable of further improvement with bottle age. A repeat purchase.
PS the next day, tasted immediately after an unoaked wine, the oak is much more apparent. Still well judged given that it did not call attention to itself in the first place.

  • 13% alcohol. Very good long dense cork with virtually no wine penetration. Lovely smell off the cork. The colour is very light, with some thinning, but no bricking at the rim.
The nose has good intensity, with cherries in evidence. The mouth is one step above, being remarkably full while remaining elegant; excellent mouthfeel. This is the top Pinot at this address, and one of the best Loire Pinot to come my way.
    A repeat purchase for sure.
