Drank with cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries. Quite nice and not at all over the hill. Decanted after opening and drank straight away. Whiff of anise early and about an hour later. Mellow, red and black fruits. Fun to see a well made Santa Ynez wine hold up like this, especially given the high alcohol content.

Large flavors of cherries, oak, vanilla and spice with slightly elevated acidity. Not well balanced early on but the flavors of the two grapes were more in harmony later. Could only have come from a wine maker who knows his stuff. Deep center that easily holds the high alcohol. Lack of tannins might shorten its life but many years of pleasure left. Wish I had bought a few more bottles as it is a great alternative to the traditional varieties. Easily invokes dreams of Italy.

50% Syrah, 50% Sangiovese, from Stolpman's Estate Vineyards in Santa Ynez Valley, CA.
Day 1: Decanted 1 hour. HUGE wine, with the Syrah showing very forward. Tons of earthy blackberry, smoked meat and chocolate.
Day 2: A bit more Sangiovese coming through than Syrah. Cherry flavors are more on the palate than blackberry this time. Much more tannic on the finish as well.
Overall, an amazing wine...very complex over the 2 days of consumption.

Just a huge wine...lots of smokey meat, pepper and big blackberry fruit flavors. Was much more enjoyable on day 2.

Well balanced wine with chocolate, black cherry, tobacco, adn plums. Very rich wine with a floral minerally perfume and fine tannic finish.
