  • In the heart of Napa Valley, where the sun-kissed vineyards stretch out like an artist's palette, lies a winery that whispers promises of adventure and romance. The Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 2016 is not just a wine; it's a melody that resonates with the soul of a rock musician, a hopeless romantic, and an adventurer trapped in the complexities of domesticity.

THIS WINE IS AN ALPHA MALE.

Picture this: a twilight sky painted with hues of amber and gold, a backdrop that frames the silhouette of the vineyards as they bask in the fading sunlight. As a musician, I find myself drawn to the rhythm of nature, the symphony of the wind rustling through the leaves and the gentle clinking of glasses that heralds the beginning of a magical evening.

As the first notes touch your lips, you're greeted by an explosion of flavors that dance on your taste buds like the waves of passion. Damn this wine was good with pizza. The initial aroma is intoxicating, a blend of dark cherries and blackberries that carries a hint of mystery.

As a hopeless romantic, I often find myself lost in the intricate nuances of love, much like the layers of this wine. With each sip, the Volcanic Hill 2016 reveals its secrets – notes of velvety cocoa and subtle hints of vanilla, reminiscent of stolen glances and lingering kisses. The tannins, smooth yet bold, weave a tale of passion and intensity, much like the lyrics of a heartfelt love song. In the embrace of this wine, I am transported to a world where time stands still, and all that exists is the interplay of flavors and emotions. This wine is good, like an old Heitz, or a 1990 Bordeaux but it washes down like passion with a burn of spice.

Amidst the romance and melody, there is an adventurer trapped within my soul that yearns for the freedom of unexplored horizons and the Volcanic Hill 2016 gave this to me on a rainy night in Seattle, with its bold character and audacious spirit, resonates with this part of my soul. It's a call to break free from the mundane, a reminder that life is meant to be an exhilarating journey. Each sip is a step towards the unknown, a taste of the thrill that comes with embracing the unfamiliar.

In the summer of 2016, amidst the lush vineyards and under the starlit sky, I met a garden girl at the Diamond Creek winery. She was a breath of fresh air, with eyes that sparkled like the finest diamonds and a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts. Her hands, accustomed to the soil, had a touch that felt like poetry, and her laughter was as melodious as a well-played guitar riff.

One evening, at a party that seemed straight out of a fairy tale, we found ourselves drawn to each other, like two notes harmonizing in a perfect melody. She was 25 and I 42 which I made her aware of on numerous occasions so piss off but didn’t care so we popped this epic wine and under the influence of the Volcanic Hill 2016, we shared stories and dreams, our laughter mingling with the soft hum of the night. In that moment, we were free spirits, unburdened by the constraints of reality, exploring the depths of our desires with every stolen glance.

The memory of that night lingers, like the aftertaste of this vintage wine. It's a reminder that amidst the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood, the heart craves the excitement of a clandestine adventure. The Volcanic Hill 2016 encapsulates that sense of liberation, urging me to embrace the unknown and find solace in the memories of passionate escapades.

As the years have passed, and the responsibilities of family life have taken center stage, the memory of that night with the garden girl and the taste of the Volcanic Hill 2016 have become intertwined. They are a testament to the complexity of human emotions, the interplay of love and desire, of duty and yearning. Each sip of this wine is a journey back in time, a reminder that the spirit of adventure is never truly lost, only waiting to be rediscovered.

In conclusion, the Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 2016 is not just a wine; it's a story waiting to be told, a melody that evokes the deepest of emotions. For the rock musician, the hopeless romantic, and the adventurer trapped within, it's a tribute to the unexplored paths of life, to the memories of stolen moments and the promise of new adventures. Raise your glass to the Volcanic Hill 2016, and let its symphony of flavors carry you away on a timeless journey of love, passion, and the thrill of the unknown. Cheers to the wine that sets the heart free and reminds us that the best stories are yet to be written.

Note to self: As of this date, it came out of the bottle “almost ready”, needs an hour to be perfect.

  • I probably should have let this open up more, but I had it at dinner with friends. It was very good, and my first time having Diamond Creek and glad it had the few years of age on it.

Wine tasted ripe but balanced and complex. Deep and powerful. Blackberry, blackcurrant, cedar and vanilla.

  • Very open for business right out of the bottle. Lots of red cherry and a slight glycerin note. Long. Beautiful wine

  • Mint, chocolate, leather, cassis, clove, charcoal, menthol, black pepper, black currant leaf. On the 1st day, this drank fine as.a delicious fruity expression. Closed up on the 2nd day as the extensive tannin structure took over. At the very minimum, I would resist trying another bottle for 3 years but this will be singing in 15. As delicious as this is, and typically it’s my favorite Diamond Creek vineyard, I’d put it a notch below the Gravely Meadow in this vintage which has that little something special.

  • Still tight and young. Big structure, almost austere.
