  • Very dark red color. PNP, drank several glasses over 3 hours. Well this turned out to be a happy coincidence and an unexpected pleasure. The coincidence was in writing this note I realized that I happened to pick up this bottle four years ago to the day we drank it. Just one of those weird things. The unexpected pleasure was not that this was a fantastic bottle, but that it was supposed to be an '02 that was purchased with its shelf mate back then. However it turns out that an '04 snuck into the box instead. Well, that was our good fortune as it turned out to be even better than the '02. This was a dead ringer for Bordeaux, very old world on the nose. Lovely earthy, leather, floral perfume with seductive cassis and dark red cherry along with tobacco and some graphite on a WOW nose. The palate is refined and fresh, everything comes together well here, medium plus body, great acid, really silky tannins, integrating oak, cassis, blackberry liqueur, leather, anise, tobacco, and a long lifted finish. These are such fun bottles to drink. Anyone who thinks only the old world can make wines like this is drinking the wrong stuff or they're just fooling themselves. Great structure here, made to last and in a great spot. 94+pts.

  • Slow-O 2 hours, served over the following 2 hours. I simply have too much of the FS juice in my cellar. I say that because it's all tasting the same, maybe it always has. Black cherry cough drop, vanilla and some earth on the nose - standard far for NV Cabernet Sauvignon, nothing distinguishing. The palate is juicy, yet balanced. The fruits, ripe, but not overly so. The tannins are already rather well integrated, the finish smooth, medium in length. If this note seems sort of blah, a bit uninspired, don't blame it on me, it's the wine's fault. Drink thru 2018, 14,2% abv.

  • Vinturi decanted 1 hour, consumed over 2 nights. Ruby core with some early bricking indicated. As with many of the FS designates, the aromas are bright and vivid, with focused notes of red floral, cassis and black berry dominating. There is a potpourri and baking spice note that comes out after the 2nd hour that's quite attractive. The full-bodied palate is well proportioned, wiith several layers of creamy fruits and smooth, fine-grained tannins. Ultimately, this lacked some complexity and overall structure needed to justify the $65 price tag. 14,2% abv, drink thru 2013

  • Black cherry, mild green pepper, clove and smoke on the nose; fresh and bright fruit, medium-bodied with firm structure; not much depth but consistent and balanced. WS missed the mark here.
