  This was just wonderful. Had been opened and decanted and by the time we got to it it was truly singing. Still prob a touch on the young side, but it's aged into itself and has that nice balance of flavors. I really enjoyed it.

  Corcho de calidad, muy largo, aunque totalmente impregnado. De color rubi rojizo de capa media-baja, translúcido, muy evolucionado, limpio y sin precipitados. Reflejos ambarinos y cobrizos, brillante. Borde amplio, atejado, sin grandes diferencias respecto al menisco.
  
  Necesitado de tiempo para ir abriéndose. Inicialmente hay notas de pimientas molidas y un rastro de maderas envinadas, trasiegas, fibras vegetales (esparto, maromas), cuero viejo y tabaco rubio. Va sacando apuntes de futa roja en licor, compota de naranja amarga, orejones. Muy maduro y algo evolucionado con un fondo amable a vainilla, granos de café, tostados cremosos, crema de almendras.
  
  En boca está pulidísimo, ligero, sin mucho peso, acariciante, sin aristas. Muy grato de beber aunque falto de mayor profundidad. Serio, bien elaborado: todo lo que hay está integrado, no le falta aidez, y sobre todo tiene mucho orden. Deja un matiz de fruta dulzosa. Algo corto y sin sensación alcohólica. Bien resuelto, disfrutable. Un Viña Monty que ha resistido el paso del tiempo con dignidad, sin fatiga, por encima del gran reserva del 81, pero lejos de la serie de Montecillo Selección Especial que sacó a la venta la bodega hace unos pocos años. Quizás la guarda prolongada en los calados de Fuenmayor haya ayudado en este caso.

  100% tempranillo. 12.5% vol.
  - Uva procedente de viñedos propios y de pequeños productores de La Rioja Alta. Inicialmente permanece durante un periodo de 6 a 12 meses en depósitos de acero inoxidable con control de la temperatura en los que realiza las fermentaciones y reposa antes de ser trasegado para su posterior maduración en madera. Sometido entre 42 y 48 meses de crianza en usadas de roble americano y nuevas de roble francés limousin (70%-30%) de 225 litros. Sometido cada año a diversas trasiegas manuales de barrica a barrica. Embotellado a mediados de 1987. Un mínimo de 36 meses de guarda en botellero en los calados de la bodega antes de ser comercializado.

  I am afraid this is on the decline although it could also have been a poor bottle. I don't think it offered up much of anything and was pretty blend on the palate. Sure the fruti and tannins are well integrated but the staying power is not really there. I will soon pop another bottle to see if this was bottle or wine...

  Needs time to open up and show its complexity, liquorice, red fruit, oak and spice, nice depth, ripe sweetness, nice volatile raspberry accent; firm core, medium weight, rather viscous texture, ripe, fragrant oak, juicy and spices, powdery, gentle tannins; good length.

  A very attractive, mature red with some browning. Notably lighter than the Faustino Gran Reserva on the nose and palate. Very long, with a decent balance of tannin and fruit.
