This was served during my annual WWC hosting. Typical format of sparkler, three whites, four reds, one dessert, all served blind.
My goal was to see how this showed blind compared to the 2015 Saint Damien Louisiane Gigondas. Both are 80 Grenache/ and mostly rounded out by Syrah (difference is the Gigiondas had some Mourvèdre).
Decanted an hour. After an extra 30mins, this became nicely lifted. Not sharp or high toned, but very pretty Grenache. More purple than the Gigondas with a juicier profile…raspberries, spiced blueberries, blackberries with lavender and good tannin. Vibrant acidity. Kiss of espresso. No trace of pepper like the Gigondas. Brighter version of Alto Moncayo. A wine I’d like to revisit on its own.

Retailer tasting. Red and dark fruit, coffee, herbs, liquorice, lots of spice, and a tea component, with good acidity and superb length. Palate-coating. Still has some rough edges, but it should develop nicely if allowed time.

Red, light marmalady fruit, popcorn and toasted bread. Both falvour intensity and complexity are medium+. The mouthfeel is pleasantly creamy, although there are still excess tannins on the palate which may take a while to integrate.

Eðalklúbburinn in Catalunya; 9/3/2017-9/9/2017 (Catalunya): Barrel sample. The colour is similar to the Creu Alta 2010. Very dark. Sharp and agressive smell. Light cherries. Very soft and aristocratic on the tongue. Fabulous acidity. Dark tones, chocolate, coffee and a hint of vanilla. Still a little rough on the edges but already a great wine.

Mövenpick 20/20 Tasting (Zollikon): Tasted at the Mövenpick 20/20 tasting near Zurich.
Red, light marmalady fruit, popcorn and toasted bread. Both falvour intensity and complexity are medium+. The mouthfeel is pleasantly creamy, although there are still excess tannins on the palate which may take a while to integrate.
