Tasted blind in Vintage Port of the 60's and 70's event with Winetasters of Toronto Club 1967 Cockburn Porto Vintage was clear medium tawny in colour, with an interesting ruby hue. The nose showed development of coffee, toffee and caramel, with medicinal herbs and mint in the background. On the palate, it was full-bodied, with medium levels of acidity and slightly chalky tannin, and a medium finish. The fruit notes were receding at this stage, and some guests even found it astringent. It was voted the seventh among the guests at the table, and the fifth among the entire group.

To quote Big G, ‘we have a sizzle dick here’. The spirit is punchy and heady. The fruit has a real red wine quality to it, much like an aged Nacional. It is full and complex and really builds. All flavours are harmonious and it is certainly somewhere near its apogee.

A Night to Remember - Don and Sally's 50th Wedding Anniversary (Don and Sally's Home): Pale strawberry red. Sweetish, wafting nose of ripe sweet plums, glycerin, cherries, all things red and etheric. Superb. Wonderfully long finish, but my palate was starting to cave in.
