  • Charles' 70s themed Karaoke Birthday Bash (Waterloo Street, Singapore): A very nice wine. This showed a certain family resemblance to the Lake’s Folly that we had just before. Slightly brackish on the rim. Nice cab nose of wet earth, leather and animale. All low, bassy notes here. Even the fruit was more plush plum than cassis. A touch of oak rounded the flavours off. Very nice on the palate as well, which showed some sweetness in its dark fruit and a little herbal undertone, but was serious and muscular, with firm, grainy tannins and a lean, cleanly fresh backbone. It finished with a little lift of snappy acid, a layering of earther and a linger of herbs – very dry, but great balance throughout. Another 1997 gem.
