  • A classic and bold Grenache and Syrah blend with nose of spicy ginger, pepper, blue and blackberries on toasted clove and savoury dried leafy notes. The palate focused more on the secondary and tertiary flavours than primary fruits. Smooth entry leading to a powerful and spicy full-bodied mid-palate. A touch more freshness will make the wine more interesting. Transition to finish lacking some finesse and definition. Tannins are there to provide the structure to go with a hearty tomato meat stew. Let this breathe for an hour if you are drinking by itself. This probably will not improve with aging. Good to drink this soon before the dry fruit fading away.

  • PnD let air for 1hr. Dark garnet deep but clear with garnet rim. Briars fruit with a touch of herbs and black olive on the nose. Medium weigh with medium black tea tannins. Red and black fruits with garrigue olive and espresso on the palate. Very fresh grilled meat brings a nice balance. Outstanding value.

  • A little bit sweet and jammy, and structure/acidity is lacking like so many Languedoc reds, but this moreish Saint-Chinian from Maison Fortant has a pleasing weight and plenty of herby garrigue personality. Bargain. (£6 from Tesco).
