  • Two bottles,
One with a terrible cork and one that was fine. Both very flawed, although one was almost drinkable but very flat.

  • Unfortunately this bottle seemed to have passed its drink by date. Two of the four we've opened so far have been amazing, but now two have been bad. So strange, as they have all come from the same two dozen that have been stored together all their lives. Perhaps one box was stored differently than the other? Next time, should bring out two in case the first is off. Taste was very flat, despite a pleasant oaky orama in the glass. Colour seemed darker and more brown than I remember the last good bottle presenting. Oh well! I'm sure we'll solve the mystery by the time we drink the last bottle.

  • Another excellent bottle; 2 out of 3 opened so far have been amazing, so this bodes well for the rest of it. Deep vibrant yellow in colour, hasn't browned off like might be expected for a 28 year old Chardonnay. Initial smell is deceiving; a light fortified aroma announces itself just after pouring but quickly dissipates with a minute of air in the glass to reveal a strong citrus scent. Citrus fruit dominates a light palate, with a surprising but pleasant acidity. Light tannins; a little oaky but masked by the acids. Best consumed in small glasses, as peak flavours and and aroma recede quickly after 10-15 mins.

  • Sherry like colour, but with a much lighter bouquet and pallete, chalky and flinty minerals, hints of lemon, very mineral-y. Tasted like a 5 year old chardonnay, only its colour betrayed it's 28 years of age.
