Dark blackish red in appearance with a clear watery meniscus. The nose is extremely restrained, with mild notes of high quality matured fruits with a watery essence and maybe a hint of wild game but nothing else that is discernible at the moment. The texture on the palate is on the lighter end of medium-bodied, very smooth with nothing really out of place (which is quite remarkable given the 14.5% ABV), it also strikes me as a little on the sweeter (perhaps from the alcohol?) than what I would expect from a Rioja red. It appears that there's still some underlying silky tannins lurking in the background that is not fully resolved but at the same time it does not seem to affect or disrupt the tasting experience at the moment. The flavor component is pretty much dominated by dark blue and black fruits, a faint tinge of herbaceousness (that reminds me of coriander stems), very mild oak treatment but not much in terms of vanilla, very shy and gentle personality to point where it feels like its dull or boring, somewhat watery yet super smooth and finishes with a very ephemeral flash of wet mineral. Overall, this is not what I was expecting given the history and producer of this wine albeit that this is only a second wine. Actually, I was expecting more, much more from this. Will have to revisit tomorrow to see if it opens up some more. Day 2: Pretty much the same except that it tasted a little bit more fuller and integrated, the creamy vanillin begins to emerge while the mineral became slightly more pronounced. Day 3: Nope, it’s just not happening. Final assessment:overrated and overpriced, it is what it is.

PNP followed over the evening. A fine wine, mostly black fruit, chocolate and a bit of cocoa. I didn’t get much of the Tempranillo typicity, this seems made in the international style. Well balanced, nothing wrong, but also nothing exciting.

Very open, with layers of ripe red fruits and luxurious vanilla, chocolate, coffee notes. Hints of leather and game. Balanced acidity, tannins. Long finish. Quite a successful vintage for this wine, and can probably develop a little further in bottle over the next 5 years.

Deep ruby. Cherry, strawberry, blueberry, cardamom, vanilla, oak, milk coffee. Medium acidity, medium+ tannins, dry, full body. Very velvety and creamy mouthfeel still long aftertaste. Very nice and velvety.

2nd wine of Macan delivers: tobacco, plum, cherry, soft vanilla, blackberry, leather, blackcurrant, medium plus body, smooth long cedar wood finish.
