The Holidays With Wine (Home is where the cellar is): The third pinot in the tasting offered a wholly different experience and drank truly Burgundian with a pretty nose of red fruit, violets, and tilled soil, followed by a powerful, rich, tannic mouth of raspberry and toasty barrel notes. A pretty serious wine with plenty of clock left on it.

The scents of crushed berries is intense. It is a blend of red and black fruits. A touch of mint follows. Then some floral notes. All the while the berries continue to stand out. The wine is smooth and the body full but not a heavyweight. Acid is in balance with the touch of sweetness. Tannins are light. I liked this wine when I drank the first bottle in March. It is better now. I wish I had several more. I’d try one every six months! If I had the patience to wait a decade, I am sure the complexity would grow. This wine will transition from excellent to fabulous; I am sure of it. Alas, I only purchased two, so tonight is the swan song.
This is why I prefer old world wines. While there was plenty of fruit, there was so much more. Loads of spice. Orange peel. The body is lush; the mouthfeel generous. Nice acid, but the tannins are light for such a youthful wine. It makes me think this wine will not be all that long lived. The finish is pleasant but not long. For a sub $60 Burgundy, this is a solid value. Not sublime , but lovely.

Burgundy With Raymond Blake (67 Pall Mall, London): The nose was shy on this eventually it displayed some red fruit, paint thinner and flowers. The palate was fine grained tannins, medium plus acidity and darker red fruits. It seems to be a tad disjointed but finishes long and toasty. A good wine.
