Deep purple with barely a hue. Medium aroma of straw, grilled meat, black berries, pepper and varnish. On the palate plum, blackberry, milk chocolate, capsicum. Sweet in the middle with dry persistent tannin to finish. Medium to full body, long finish. Medium plus acidity. A fresh complex wine, good fruit and balanced acidity. The tannin stands out at the moment and should integrate more over the next few years. Many years ahead.

In a good place to drink. Park in balanced. Blackberries. Dark plum. Structured. Sweet dark fruit finishing. The texture and body can be better. Won’t say I like or dislike it. Nonetheless, a good daily drinking wine.

Tightly coiled, tobacco tannins, blackberry, anise, hay, vanilla, earth. Very reticent. Definite liquorice. Just not enough depth of fruit, length or complexity for a higher score.

Really good vintage in the Barossa. In fact, every time I have a Barossa 2016 I kick myself for not buying more. And then I inevitably do.
This Turkey Flat is a serious wine. Did you know their Shiraz vines are some of the oldest in the world? Planted in 1847. You are drinking wine from 172 year old vines here. And they charge $50 a bottle. That’s pretty astonishing in my view.
Also, I don’t usually talk about labels, but the bottle label is just beautiful. I like the earthy/ochre smudge on the turkey’s back and the label hasn’t changed in a very long time, which appeals to me too.
A step up from 2014 and even from the very good 2015. It is a bit more classy than the big and bold Barossa Shiraz stereotype, but it still has plenty of lead in the saddle bags. It has great perfume and fine tannin. It keeps you coming back for another sip. I’m very impressed.
Multi-case buy coming up.
