  • Tasted over two days.

Enthralling perfume of purple and black fruits, wintergreen, savory, eucalyptus, mint, marjoram, green peppercorns, cracked peppercorns, menthol, tar, coal, and mineral ores. Juicy, broad, and compact. Striking tension and precision for a 17-year-old offering. Long, complex finish. Exceptional pairing with braised short ribs.

This bottle had at least a decade of life ahead.

  • 2005 Domaine Colombier Cuvée Gaby Crozes Hermitage. Alc 13%
Dark and opaque. Dark and brooding with unsweetened Cocoa powder notes and leather and iron. Very smooth and wonderful. It might get better but not by much. Long finish. Lovely

  • Deep-ish crimson with a purple edge.
Penetrating aromas of garrigue, black plum compote, liquorice, rosemary, black pepper. The as wine opens some morello cherries and raspberry. A soft, fleshy entry, bright fruit with a plum skin textural grip, not unlike Malbec. The mid-palate then gives a creaminess that combines with a lovely stream of fresh acidity in tune with Crozes-Hermitage (from the cooler slopes), which goes through to a medium finish comprised of grippy, reasonably solid tannins. There is sweet milk chocolate combined with sea salt (like a Lindt salt) alongside oak spice, coffee husks and dark fruits. Some meat stock comes through on the finish, and the wine has a vibrancy that keeps the wine fresh. A good wine if perhaps a little understated?

  • Easily best bottles. Softened and matured now though in no way tired. Dark black fruits, plenty of meat, liquorice. Nice balance, medium weight and fine acidity. Medium length.

  • Savory, meaty, delicious. Still tasting young with some tannic backbone. Showed very well next to an outstanding 1998 Clape. Excellent to Outstanding.
