Garagiste

(MILZ Spatlese Tritt Leit) Riesling Dear Friends, I recently enjoyed this wine over two nights and it is gorgeous (strangely, it was even better on day two - even with this amount of bottle age). This is another example where patience has been rewarded with a rainbow-colored butterfly that was once an expensive moth with hardly any presence. This library parcel comes with the finest provenance available - complete with a full 1/8 inch of black mold between the capsule and cork - a sign of excellent humidity in storage and a trait of many cellar-aged Mosel (and Burgundy) wines from old estates. A gorgeous nose with secondary whiffs of soil, lemon and petrol that are so alluring, they leave the actual wine an afterthought. The palate has already dropped a large amount of sugar and what's been left behind is an elegant, pure, low Pradikat Spatlese that is a ridiculous value - what I wish so many Mosel wines could be but few are in the reality of year 2009 Euro/Dollar exchange. As the ultimate compliment, a famous US importer (that knows a thing or two about Milz) recently likened the evolution of this wine to JJ Prum W-S Spatlese. Enough said. I'm not going to question their pricing but it feels like an early holiday season to me... VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for a textbook example that has just entered its secondary phase: 2002 Milz (Laurentuishof) Trittenheimer Leiterchen Riesling Spètlese Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Germ7970
