Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 92.5 points

  • No notes taken. I‘ve had this twice over the past two years and it showed incredibly well (rated 95pts) and was indistinguishable from a well aged Bordeaux, complex, precise, full of beautiful tertiary tobacco and truffle aromas alongside a still intact fruit core and a minerality backbone. This bottle, however, was a bit simple, not giving much complexity and not with the same fine structure and elegance. In no way a bad wine but just not that interesting. 89/90pts.

  • Tasted blind. Initially started in beef juice territory, but did stage a nice comeback with some air. In the end this showed notes of smoke, dried leaves and foliage along with a sweet and rather red type of fruit. That said, the off-notes reminding me of stew didn’t entirely disappeared. On palate too, the elements appeared somewhat disjointed.

  • No notes taken. This is a beautifully mature Bordeaux from Argentina. Very classic and for sure everybody would have guessed left bank and not new world. Intense tertiary aromas with forest floor, tobacco, a beautiful minerality and a nice, ripe fruit core. Very well balanced and harmonious with a melted tannin structure, good freshness and tension, the right amount of creaminess and a medium long finish. I believe that this is at its peak and will stay there for a few more years but 95 pts seems the best possible for this wine as for more it would need additional complexity, a higher precision and a more impressive finish.

Decanting: Not decanted and good from the go.

  • Tight and concentrated with sweet cabernet fruit, coconut and leather. Rich and generous., but not very elegant. More developed than a 1994 Malbec Estrella tasted same evening.

  • A good Cabernet Sauvignon lasts for very long. I happen to find this bottle in my cellar and decided to taste it. Surprisingly smooth from opening the bottle and gaining a lot of tertiary notes without diminishing the significant fruity primaries at all. We decided not to decante the wine also as the sediments were very light. The color was solid purple with some light brownish tones at the edge. It seems that this wine can still be kept in the cellar for one to two maybe three years or more. The legs in the glas are slow. By the way, watch out for Sophienwald glases - I am very happy with these.
The nose returns smells of mushroom with a truffle note, forest floor, overarched by raisin, blackberry and chocolate.
The palate returns the note by adding tastes like cranberry and coffee as well as some meaty notes. I would call the body medium with a very silky and smooth texture. The lenght of the finish is medium but not whooping and acidity is rather on the lower side.
Perfect wine to some smoked meat, cheese and olives and an easy fall/early winter sun downer.
