This is an old-school large-scaled Montrachet that had abundant yellow fruit, peach, and tropical extract. Lots of power and depth on the palate that kept punching your sensor. The ripeness was lifted by more than sufficient acidity. An in-your-face Montrachet that is about power over finesse. Drinking at its peak.

From magnum, this started out flat and uninteresting but with some air and warming up, it showed lovely minerality and complex, smooth fruit, brimming with class as you expect from a well-made Montrachet.

As far as great bottles of wine go this was up there. Immediately on opening there is an incredibly powerful aroma which is hedonistic to say the least. There is so much going on that I find it hard to get my head around the details. The only thing I did know is that I'm grinning from ear to ear at the prospect of drinking this. The taste is as good as the nose suggests. Almost, as so many great wines are, too complex to describe. Ever changing and evolving very difficult to pin down a particular character that stands out. At over ten years of age this was just beginning to unfold and shows that Montrachet is the Grandest of Grand cru's.

Medium yellow. Smoked bacon on the nose. Largely scaled, brilliantly structured and very, very intense and complex in the mouth. Amazingly light on its feet, considering all the power and muscle. Elegant and classy. Long finish. Stunning.
