  • Tasted at the winery. This is the second oldest Wiemer Gewurztraminer I have tried after the 1998. Seemed a bit soft on the nose at first, with aged Gewurzt qualities dominant, then picks up more orchard fruits and even some pretty spices the longer it was open. Perhaps slightly over light bodied and very much on the edge. As it opened up, it showed some varietal characteristics particularly light spices mixed with soft, white orchard fruit notes. Just a touch of acidity and citrus on the back for support. Overall impression was this wine was quite delicate and while quite drinkable it was clearly in the last phase of life. The 2006 (which I tried several times back in 2019) seemed in clearly better shape. Nevertheless, fun to experience again a Gewurzt of this age. Drink now.

  • nice bottle of wine. Golden hued, with nice floral nose. The wine is similar to their Riesling in the way the aromatics and flavor are more prevelant when a little warmer.
My first gewurztraminer, and it won't be my last.
