  • It seems like the other two reviewers before me must have had faulty bottles. This took a while to open up in the decanter and was better when left overnight, but by no means does the bottle I tried seem defective or awful.

Dark fruits, pencil shavings, liquorice, savoury notes. Maybe a very subtle brettiness, but I can't say for certain - definitely less than in the Caronne Ste Gemme I had recently, which was distinctive. Perhaps other tasters are picking up on this more than me, or bottle variation or something.

At any rate, I bought the bottle without reading tasting notes, assumed it would be rubbish after I read them and was happily surprised to find a perfectly drinkable wine with some personality and character.

Paid £17, last bottle in the shop (previously more like £20).

  • Black fruit and liqorice aromas seem to be unbalanced by strong meaty component, somewhat like bouillon/bovril. Not sure if I have a tainted bottle.

  • Undrinkable when opened. After two hours:

Dark red purple. Medium+ body. Medium+ tanines and high acidity.

Medium aromas and on the palate - earth, leather, oak, vanilla and black fruits.

Bitter long ending that I really don't like.

... then the worst hangover I experienced for a long time...not my favorite wine... not even close.
