Comprised of 100% Merlot, the 2017 Saintayme is an opaque crimson wine that is a credible member of Denis Durantou's stable. This particular bottle was splash-decanted and tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours. Aromatically intense after the first hour, it delivers a nice array of red bramble fruits, Montmorency cherries, cedar, smoky herbs and allspice. Medium-to-full-bodied, tart, softly oaked and with medium edgy tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, stays solid in the middle and closes with a medium-length, astringent finish. This will benefit from a bit more cellaring and may merit a higher score in the future. That said, Durantou's fans will never confuse this with L'Église Clinet. Drink 2023-2030.

Relatively intense and seductive aromas with plums, slightly sweet red fruit peel, espresso, leather and hints of vanilla. Medium-bodied, fresh and pronounced juicy wine with plums, espresso and mocha. A little more austere outcome, but not in a too negative way. Not in detail, but this drinks well for both game and cattle. 89 points.

Red fruits with a hint of earth and citrus on the front end. In the middle, you have a medium-bodied palate that offers spicy, red fruits, cocoa and another dash of that entertaining citrus in the finish. This forward wine was produced with 100% Merlot. You can enjoy this early in life.

Slightly oaky but very pleasant. Nice cherry fruit and decent length. Fine qpr
