  • This was bottle #993 of Viticcio's '95 production drunk four days after bottle #995 (see my earlier note). Remarkable difference from the same case: rich, dark color (hint of amber edge); full cab sauv blackcurrant nose with some oak; very good mouthfeel and delicious blackcurrant fruit; 10-15s finish. It was an excellent accompaniment to herbed sauteed chicken legs with brown rice and Greek salad. I'm sure this is past peak but not far enough to be disappointing, esp. at 20/b. So...bottle variation in the case since all have been stored together in the basement for the last 10+ years.

  • I bought this years ago on closeout, probably from Binny's; probably paid 20/b or so. I think this is the first bottle I've tried. I was not optimistic after reading DON721's note that a '97 tasted in 9/2008 was "on the way out". Decent purple but with amber edge, muted nose with some black fruit/cab sauv aromas, lean but tasty enough with food (pesto shrimp rotini), short finish. This has seen better days but is still drinkable and even enjoyable with the right food complement. But see my note on the next bottle drunk four days later.
