  • Delicious bottle of Chardonnay! I think the oak has mellowed a bit and the fruit really shone through. Have been really happy with these 03 chards.

  • This has really come around nicely. Originally I found it rather austere except for the oak influence, but now the fruit and barrel influence seem to have integrated... lots of pear, buttercream, and honey flavors. However, it isn't over-the-top, has there's a good core of slightly tart acidity backing all that. Maybe just a tad hot on the finish, but I find this trait in most dry white wines, so I may be oversensitive compared with others. Paired well with chicken cordon bleu.

  • It's been a while since we had a bottle of the 03 chard. Upon opening I was excited about some of the same characteristics that I remembered from earlier bottles. After a while though, the mid-palate became pretty hollow and the finish was pretty short.

  • From a comparatively cool year, this wine still has yet to really turn me on. Perhaps it's dumb, perhaps it simply lacks fruit. I mostly get the vanilla and butterscotch notes from the barrel treatment.

  • First time I have had this wine. The section of the vineyard that holds his Chard plantings probably has the best exposure and drainage combination. It faces South and has among the steepest grades from what I could tell. Not as rocky as the section that holds the Cab plantings though. Jim poured some of this for us after his 2005 Chard and it showed as a drier and lighter than the 2005. 14% alcohol. Notes of lemon oil, citrus and smokey white fruit. 87-88 points.
