It was luscious and so well integrated. All of its voices were singing in perfect harmony. Continuing the metaphor, it was a slow, sultry ballad that held you entranced from the first note to the last note. It took you on a journey with no bumps or detours - just beautiful, ripe, dark purple fruit.
We enjoyed this bottle at Spencer's Restaurant in Palm Springs. Highly recommended for a group of our size - 6 couples. Their corkage policy allowed our group to bring four bottles (their max) and to waive one corkage fee ($30) for every bottle purchased from their wine list which was a very robust and wide-ranging list. It was PnP which likely did not allow it to initially show as well as it might have if it had been given even 30 minutes of air. Pretty much everyone who tasted it just sort of stopped with he first sip and had a look on their face of, "Oh my..." It was delicious and decadent. In fact, it was just a few steps shy of being a fabulous desert wine.
Like @BOULDERWINE from two years ago, I cannot fathom how this received a 97 point score from WS. Very good? Yep! Incredible? Nope. I have to disagree with @GRIESMJ from a couple of months ago and say that I would encourage any who still have these to drink them up now. My sense is that it is going to get sweeter with more time.
But make no mistake, this was excellent wine from Pete and Cathy Seghesio.

Earth, dark/dried black fruit, and spice on the nose. Big black fruit flavors blended with some mint and chewy tannins. This could go for another 5 years. Very good wine.

Super dark color. Rich, concentrated, syrupy, chalky and overripe. Can’t understand the highest-ever Wine Spectator Zinfandel rating (97) for this wine. Maybe it drank better 2+ years ago when it was tasted/rated (?) but then it hasn’t aged well. At any rate, certainly not my style for Zinfandel. (15.4% alc)

A beautiful monster! The sheer scope of this gorgeous, elegant beast! Enormous but definitely not heavy. Vibrating gloriously with berries, smoke, and spice. Cavernous with cool rust. Seamlessly and flowingly triangular.

Impressive wine - probably near or at peak? Had with spicy beef stew, excellent companion!
