A very unique wine indeed. 100% Diego (also called Vigiriega in its native Andalusia before it was victim to phylloxera in the 1800s) planted on ashy volcanic soils organically thanks to the windy conditions of Lanzarote. The nose immediately gives an ashy smoke reminiscent of the ancient volcanoes along with the melon and honeydew. The ash is lighter on the palate which presents clean and crisp with melon, peach, wet stones and fresh green apples with a short to medium tangy finish. It's very fun and accessible and definitely worth a try for those looking for "out there" Spanish white varietals.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): First time with a Canary Islands wine. Served a bit on the cold side although I think that might have been on purpose. There's a certain almost underlying waxiness to it that seems to be kept in check with the chill. In that state it almost seems a bit light and refreshing. Lots of honey notes. Enjoyable and also a bit different although hard to exactly explain. Something in the texture of the wine although I think it worked.

Very similar to sauvignon blanc: crisp, fresh, somewhat grassy, but not intense (think more Loire Valley vs New Zealand). Great citrus flavor.
