  • Indigena Tasting with Ian D'Agata in Houston. Consistent with my September 20 2018 TN. I would say that this wine has barely entered its optimal drinking window and should show well through 2024, albeit a little more austere than the 2015s.

  • The description of this wine really should be updated to just "Nizza Riserva DOCG," as of the 2014 vintage. This is 100% Barbera, aged at least 24 months in in a combination of 50% tonneaux and 50% Slavonian oak casks, plus at least 6 more months in the bottle. Medium (+) to deep ruby, with a medium (+) to intense nose of Jolly Rancher cherry, black berry, mocha and sweet baking spices. The palate is dry, but fruit-forward, with a creamy mouthfeel. The acidity and tannins are medium (+) and the alcohol is high at (14.5%). This wine is already showing very well, and is quite fresh and approachable, probably due to the difficult weather of the 2014 vintage. I'm guessing that 2014 is not going to be quite as age-worthy as the 2007, but it should show well through at least 2023. This is really a delightful wine.
