Grabbed one of these as the second bottle for our Seder brisket. I have always thought of the Uncle's Block as the stepchild of the Rockpile SVD Zins, but it's best to say it was the youngster, and had a way to go to catch up to the others. (Think of the now deceased Cemetery as the Joe Kennedy Jr--the best and tragically lost of the siblings.) This is, after early missteps or growing pains, just a spot on Zin, with perfect typicity (dark dark fruit, some leafiness, blunt but rounded tannins) if a small lack of complexity. Clay and Emma refine their overall winemaking each vintage, but the real learning curve for these Zin masters is now the vineyards themselves, and they seem to have Uncle's on a great trajectory.

Herbs and spices along with dark fruit on the nose. Med acidity and tannins were mild. Med/Full body. This is a really nice wine and approachable now. If you like less fruity/jammy wines this is a really good example of a nicely balanced Zin. Along with the lush fruit there are hints of spice, herbs and tea which I really enjoyed and why I really enjoy these Zins. Drink now over next 3-5 years as I don’t see this aging long especially if you like some bright and primary flavors.

This is IMO Mauritson's least spectacular Zin but it's still head and shoulders better than most. The block is coming along and with more experience the winemaker is dialing it in. A little VA but it blew off, then clean, blackberry. Not a long ager, tannins are already pretty mild
