2017 Alpha Estate Single Vineyard Kaliva Sauvignon Blanc Fumé was refreshing and balanced. The Greek Sauvignon Blanc was clear and pale lemon in colour. On the nose, there were aromatics of grapefruit and apricot, followed by vanilla, toast and a touch of green bell pepper. With air, smoke and riper fruit notes of pineapples and white peach developed. On the palate, it was dry and medium-bodied, with high level of refreshing acidity. Flavors of grape tomato, lemon zest, cream and saline minerality were present in a rather long mineral-driven zesty finish.
From the information on the back label, the Sauvignon Blanc grapes were sourced from a 2.33-hectare vineyard, called Kaliva, at a altitude of 632 metres. The climate was semi-continental, and the soil was composed of sand and clay over limestone subsoil. The wine was aged in Tronçais (French oak) barriques on extra fine lees for seven months. The vines were planted in 1999.

Clear pale gold; clean medium plus nose of ripe lemons, caramel and bread with an initial hint of cut grass and ammonia; dry; high acidity; medium plus alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; pfn but lemon note is tarter and addition of cheesy note; medium plus finish; drink now or in 3 years; outstanding quality; beautiful effort - an interesting cross between Pessac-Leognan and New World styles

Weekly tasting group RWP #337; Greece (@ RW): In the bouquet minerals, grasses and sweat…. On the palate minerals, some sweetness, green apples, chalky impressions and firm acidity. Special wine. 86 - 87

Nice enough but lacked typicity. I can find more recognizable and enjoyable SBs for the same price ($35 CAD).
