  • Better than my last few bottles. More developed, or at least funkier.

  • Did not enjoy this as much as the previous bottle. Too simple and not as expressive.

  • No formal note, but I think I was right in 2006 -- this is a nice wine now, and should continue to be so over the next several years. Some secondary complexity is starting to develop, and I have no reason to believe this won't continue to develop over the next few years.

  • Drank with mushroom risotto. A nice wine that's far too young. These notes are after the bottle has been open for 5 hrs. A very nice nose of red and black fruits wiith some underlying oak spiciness. Alcohol comes through a bit on the nose, but the wine is probably a touch warm. A nice palate with tart red fruit and tons of acid, which was far too prevalent for the first few hours this was open. But by hour 5, the wine has picked up a certain fullness. Some tannins start to appear on the nice finish. My guess is this will be very nice in a few years and be excellent for several years after that.

  • How much do you hate it when you spend 20 minutes poring over a long restaurant wine list trying to pick the perfect price/value winner that will go with your food only to find it's out-of-stock? Such was my experience tonight at Country. A Grivot NSG was maybe the best deal on the whole list (although there were plenty of attractive wines under $40-kudos to the sommelier), but it was gone. So I decided to try this one for $83. A lot for a plain bourgogne, I know, but I thought this might have the depth and weight necessary to carry the hanger steak and lamb we were eating. Turns out I was more or less right, though a cab or syrah might have been a better overall match. Quite dense and fruit backed, not unlike last night's Chevillon NSG, certainly among the most substantial bourgogne's I've ever had. A whiff of new oak perhaps, but mostly rich ripe berry fruit and depth. Youngish still-probably needs 3-5 years.
