Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): We had a bit of trouble finding a bottle from the list that was in stock and we ended up with this, one of the few bottles that had some age on it. More to the modern style with dark red fruit and oak dominating - tasted a bit clunky to me. Would not seek this producer out based on this bottle.
Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): It's a bit of a toss up when you tell a restaurant that specializes in recent vintages and doesn't have the first few wines that you ordered that you'll take a bottle of something not on the list with age. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you don't. This is definitely more modern style. Heavier. More one-dimensional. I make it sound awful and it's not. Totally drinkable, but it didn't surprise or delight at all. It was a background wine to some food.
