1998 Burgundy Grand Crus - Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore, Chapitre de la Printemps (Harbour Grill, Hilton Hotel): What a way to end the night. Palates were dead tired by this time, but boy, this was a great wine that certainly woke me up. Decanted for an hour or so, the nose was show-stopping. Funky earth, deep mushroomy scents, melons, pears, apples and nutty macadamias and almonds. If anything, the palate had even more a "wow" factor. Dense, rich, but beautifully balanced with fresh acidity, it showed pure melons, ripe lemons, almond nuts and a lovely seam of minerality. Like every good Monty, the palate did not shout, or flaunt its power. Instead, it snuck up on you with a gentle, yet inexorably length, with lemons, white fruit and nuts just unfurling fold by fold in the mouth. A gorgeous wine.
