Very good but I had higher expectations. I didn’t notice any change over the hours of decanting or drinking. It simply didn’t have the level of sophistication I was counting on.

- Brick color with a full body. Round texture with a long finish - Jan 23 with 8 hrs decanting. Huge, powerful, BEASTLY as intended! For a Napa cab, its the extreme example of whats possible. Incredibly lingering on the palate. Price per minute of taste might amortize as reasonable... Definitely a slow drinker, one to just keep sniffing deeply then slowly tasting. The nose of blackberry pie is gentle compared to the explosion of the same on the tongue. Ripe blackberries, bell pepper, red peppercorn, a little earthy dust. The strong tannins keep it from being too jammy. Its a bit hot on the lingering. Maybe will mellow with more time.

At my daughter’s virtual (mostly) BM in FH. No notes but wonderful day drinking of 2013 VHR, 2013 Tor Beckstoffer To Kalon and 2016 Del Dotto Beast. These were all fantastic wines with maybe the Beast being a too early one to pop this go around. My order would be a close 1-2 with Tor leading the way followed by the Beast as a distant 3. Tor and VHR both a drink now with a good decant (1-2 hours) and Beast is about back and hold for a few years.
Same notes apply from September.

Decanted and tried it at 20 minute intervals. It was good after 20 minutes, outstanding after an hour. Crushed berries on the nose, good depth on the open kept it from being jammy. Tannins mellowed after an hour of decanting but additional bottle time will serve this wine well. Net-Net : This is little young but can be enjoyed now when decanted. If you like California Cabs - The Beast will not disappoint.
