  • This is the great cuvée of St-Joseph produced by Pierre Gaillard, from a selection made after aging in barrels (100% new oak for 18 months). The wine was decanted 1h30 before the tasting. Seductive and elegant nose, moderately expressive but of an interesting complexity, with imposing notes of red stone fruits (mainly cherries and plums) and undertones of black olive, violet, some discreet spices and a subtle tobacco background. Fruity, with an incredible balance, delicately peppery and barely marked by wood, the palate is incredibly graceful. The material is ample, certainly, but soft and supple. The aromas of black fruits, tapenade, pencil lead and sweet spices are supported by dense and fine tannins. These probably need to blend in and untighten more. The wine ends long on a lovely minty freshness and a feminine floral touch. It's devilishly good! What a success!

  • This wine seems less good than tasted at the winery in July 2019. Seems a little shutdown now. Good fruit here mainly plum. Tannins are soft - the wine is a little flat. The palate lacks the spice-peppery character of the northern rhone syrah. You can bet that this wine will be better in 1 to 2 years.
