Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. 95% Vermentino, 5% Viognier. Bright, deep yellow with a green hue. The nose is clean, medium (+) in intensity with aromas of ripe lemon white flower, tropical fruit and flint. The palate is dry, but endowed with nice, ripe fruit, medium (+) acidity and medium (+) alcohol. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy and the flavor intensity is quite impressive for a wine at this price point. It has a medium (+) long finish, with medium (+) minerality. Not intended for aging, but it certainly has several good years still ahead of it. An incredible value proposition at $12.

Relatively deep yellow. Aggressive herbal nose. Similarly aggressive flavors that stand simply as "Vermentino" — i.e., not Sauvignon Blanc, not Chardonnay, definitely not Riesling or Gewurztraminer or Torrontes. One of the best wines I sampled in the last year was the Pala 2017 Stellato Vermentino from Sardegna. While the Aia Vecchia is not up to that level, it shows the to unappreciated quality of the grape.
