There should be a lot here for me to like as some of my favorite wines are the big and bold wines like Zinfandel, Touriga Nacional, and Tannat. Unfortunately, that's not the case here. Screw-top! Deep garnet in appearance with heavy syrup viscosity. Aroma was intense upon opening, but unfortunately it was offensively sweet and overly ripe. The only thing I could smell was strawberry taffy taffy and bubble gum. The aromas seemed to calm down after several hours, but was still drowning everything else out. The palate was the same issue. The wine exhibits many of my favorite traits, being rich and fleshy full bodied wine with heavy tannins. There were even some earthy and spicy notes to it. Unfortunately I couldn't make any of them out as they were completely drowned out by the strawberry taffy taffy. Medium finish that starts off earthy but ends off with the over-the-top strawberry notes. This is not an age issue as it is a screw-top. If Covenant figures out how to tone down the strawberry notes this would be a very interesting wine, but until they do, I will pass on this wine.
