Clearly some bottle variation at this point. Nowhere as good as my prior bottle. After a 1 hour decant it was just OK and then downhill. Even worse the next day. - - it happens.

Somewhat closed and med/med+ tannins on pop and pour. Gave it around 1.5 hours of good airing and it came around. Elegant med- nose of roses, wild flowers, dried strawberries, cherries. Minerally and tarry notes. In the mouth these follow through with medium tannin and good acid fruit balance. Medium- intensity long delightful finish.

Coravin. Light ruby with mild bricking; aromatic, red fruited, dusty spice, floral, orange peel; palate is light bodied, medium-high tannins, medium-high acidity, red fruited, a bit of fade through the midpalate; finish is medium length. Similar to past bottles though not quite as far along as my bottle 2 months ago, drinking well now especially with food but a bit limited by its length. 90 2 hours air: this really has a good amount of complexity, including some cherry cola, even if a bit short on length. A lovely Gattinara. 91

Coravin. Light ruby with medium bricking characteristic of Nebbiolo; aromatic with red fruits, some soy and balsamic, slight floral, some cinnamon; palate is light bodied, plenty of savory and umami notes including soy, more limited fruits, medium-high acidity, simpler red fruits which fade through the midpalate; finish is medium to medium-minus length. I think this has developed more maturity notes over just 2 years since my last bottle, though certain detractors such as the simplicity of the fruit and the relatively short finish and one-note midpalate still persist. A lovely Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo, and a bit further along than I would have expected it today. Enjoyable now, and no reason to wait more than another 5-7 years. 90
