  • Fermented in stainless steel, macerated for 25 days with the skins. Aged for 12 months in 350-liter Slavonian oak casks, then for another 5 months in barriques.

Deep and dark cherry red color. Fragrant, ripe and dusty nose with fine-tuned aromas of sweet black cherries, somewhat wizened dark berries, some plummy fruit, a little bit of mulberry and a hint of sweet, toasty oak spice. The wine is ripe, dusty and somewhat spicy on the palate with flavors of juicy dark cherries, fresh plums, some dusty wood tones, a little bit of sweet oak spice, light blackberry-driven forest fruit tones, a hint of licorice and a developed dried-fruit touch of pruney fruit. The wine is moderately high in acidity with tannins that are quite light and gently grippy, yet relatively noticeable for a Barbera. The finish is quite long, medium-to-moderately grippy and quite ripe with flavors of juicy black cherries, blueberries, some red plums and a little bit of tart dark berries.

A balanced and nicely structured but also somewhat generic and predictable Super-Barbera. The wine shows relatively high levels of tannins for a Barbera, making the wine feel more firm and grippy than what is typical for the variety, but the overall style is more ripe, softer and less acid-driven than what I like in Barbera. Furthermore, the oak influence, while not excessive, is still a bit too noticeable for my taste. However, seeing how relatively youthful the wine is, I can imagine it can develop from here, gaining complexity and making the oak integrate better with the fruit. Nevertheless, I must say that at the ex-cellar price of 9€, the wine feels quite expensive for the style.
