My first go round with a Bea red. This one felt a little late harvest in character. I liked it but not commensurate to the hype. This was a bit of a fly by tasting at a big Italian lunch so my impression was brief.

Was never a big fan of Rosso de veo. Much preferred pagliaro with older vines and age but this was the best vintage I’ve had of four. Still tannic even after 10 years of bottle age but had a lot of cherries on the nose and on the palette. The alcohol sneaks up on you but you don’t taste it. This was solid.

First time with this fine Paolo Bea produce. Unfiltered, cloudy dense red, emerging brickish in appearance. Nose packed with herbs and cherries. Palate is full-bodied, powerful, slightly opulent, firm tannins up-front, good structure, decent acidity. Very rich tannic finish. Still young!

I typically don’t like wine with high alcohol content so when I saw this was 15.5% I was concerned. Now I’ve had many Bea wines and have always thought they were the class of Umbria. I checked other wine of Bea and they had lower alcohol content: Anyway, I decanted this for an hour and drank over a few hours. The alcohol is well integrated and honestly not obvious. Bea is the master and although this is not Bea’s best wine it’s still without a mistake truly Bea...the master of Umbria!

Amazing fruit, deep tannins and earthy long finish. Decanted for 2hrs. Exceptional wine
